Tablet vs. Laptop

While I was working on my iPad I began to think what is a better purchase an iPad or a Computer. Tablets are becoming more and more commonplace and people are starting to question whether they should even buy a laptop.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both sides. For example, tablets have been shown to have a much longer battery life than laptops even though both are supposed to portable. Tablets are also much lighter than laptops. This advantage will help in portability and comfort.  And who doesn’t enjoy the touch screen experience? In terms of the laptop, they provide much more memory and storage capability. Also, tablets you cannot increase memory on the device you buy, but on computers you can connect hard drives. Hopefully this problem will be overcome through the use of cloud.

As of now tablets, are simply not as powerful as laptops and do not support as many applications and capabilities. For example, as a student studying computer science I cannot run many of the programs and files I need to on the iPad. However, most of the basic tasks, such as writing documents, sending e-mails, watching videos, and browsing the web can be done on both laptops and tablets.

We see that today many laptops are becoming touchscreen and many tablets are coming with portable keyboards. Maybe soon enough there will be a mesh of the two that everyone will get accustomed to in society.  But it essentially comes down to what you will use your device for and what is more comfortable to you.

  1. Hi Raqhav! Excellent arguments for both sides, I really like how you went in-depth on the pros and cons of each product. If I could recommend one thing, however, is that it would have been cool to see a pros and cons format for your blog post on the laptops vs. tablets! Otherwise, solid work.

  2. I have to agree with Masaki, really great idea to bring up this quandry. I have actually been pondering whether to invest in a tablet or not. Great use of bringing up compelling arguments and decisions!
